I was raised in an era when everything was much more simple. When my brother and I entertained ourselves by riding our bikes or playing catch in a neighborhood without sidewalks or paved roads. I was raised during a recession when housing was difficult to find – for buying or to rent. I remember being thrilled when my Dad would bring home comic books and milkshakes when I was sick. And I certainly didn’t know we were poor - or close to it. I did understand that my Dad had to work two jobs to keep the family fed and clothed. But, one of his jobs was being a musician and I was rewarded on early Sunday mornings with greasy, smashed hamburgers to eat in bed so my Dad could sleep. And burgers are still my favorite breakfast. I am a Baby Boomer and have a terrible time getting around my Blackberry phone which was recommended to me by my 40 year old son. When asked if I Twitter or text, I just have a vague lo0k on my face and there is no more conversation about that. I communicate the old-fashioned way: telephone, e-mail, “snail-mail”.
