Rick learned the business of real estate from the best…his father. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas his father was the owner of Van Cox Real Estate. Rick received his Kansas real estate license and started working for his father in 1965. He also bought his first rental home that year and began a long career in the many aspects of the real estate business. Through the years he worked on real estate projects in Chicago and Colorado before moving to the Oregon coast in the early 1970’s. After arriving in Florence he bought some income properties and was involved in a variety of construction projects. His career with Coast Real Estate began in 1977. He was the owner/broker in the early 80’s. His relaxed style, years of accumulated local knowledge and his involvement in all aspects of this business provide the advantage necessary to complete the complicated transactions in today’s market. In his private life, Rick and companion local physician Clare Brien, are cycling enthusiasts. They have a collection of recumbents, mountain, tandems and folding travel bikes. The duo can often be seen riding the local byways. They live in the “woods” in a small cabin “under constant” remodel and when not cycling or kayaking, they work on a variety of construction and rental maintenance projects. This year’s planned trip includes an 8 day ride through the hills of west Texas for the annual Texas “Hell Week”.
